Free Knitting Pattern No. 6: Pixie Hat





Size:Average

Materials: 1 pair UK No. 4 (6mm, US 10) knitting needles;  Oddments of yarn in 11 different colours (approximately 40g in total)

Abbreviations: mm: millimetres; ins: inches; cm: centimetres; k: knit;  p: purl; sts.: stitches; st: stitch; st.st.: stocking stitch; tog: together; rem: remain; C: colour

Terms:
Stocking stitch: 1st row k, 2nd row p.

Cast on 80 sts
1st Row: Using C1 k into back of each st to end
2nd Row: Begin k1, p1 Rib
Continue in rib for 2 ins
Next Row: k
Next Row: p
Continue in st.st. throughout,
Work 6ins without shaping but change yarn colours as given below, then:
Next Row: k2 tog twice, k to last 4 sts., k2 tog twice.

Continue decreasing in this manner throughout remainder of work until 4 sts rem., at the same time keeping the colour changes of yarn going as shown below.  Break yarn. Thread yarn through all 4 sts and pull up tightly. Secure on wrong side. Sew in all ends neatly. Using a neutral colour sew seam neatly. Fasten off. Turn Right-Side Out.

5th st.st. row: work 2 rows in C2
7th st.st. row: work 4 rows in C3
11th st.st. row: work 6 rows in C4
17th st.st. row: work 2 rows in C5
19th st.st. row: work 6 rows in C6
25th st.st. row: work 4 rows in C7
29th st.st. row: work 2 rows in C8
31st st.st. row: work 4 rows in C9
35th st.st. row: work 6 rows in C10
39th st.st. row: work 4 rows in C11
43rd st.st. row: work 2 rows in C5
45th st.st. row: work 6 rows in C4
51st st.st. row: work to end in C1
