Free Knitting Pattern No.1: Quick Beanie



Size: Average

NB: There is no turn up with this pattern but if you require one then rib 4 inches (10 cm) instead of 2 inches (5 cm) and remember to sew the rib on outside of hat when joining sides for turn up.

Materials:
1 pair UK Size 4 Needles (6mm) US Size 10
Use same needles throughout
Approximately 30 grammes (US 30 grams) of Double Knitting Wool (8 Ply)
Abreviations:
K: Knit; P: Purl; st.st.: Stocking Stitch; in: inches; mm:millimetres; cm: centimetres; tog: together; rep: repeat; sts: stiches; rem: remaining;

Cast on 80 sts
1st Row (optional): Knit into the back of each stitch
Work 8 Rows (or 2 in, 5 cm) in K1, P1 Rib
Continue in st.st. until work measures 6 in (15 cm) ending with a P Row
Next Row: (K6, K2 tog), rep to end (70 sts rem)
Next Row: P
Next Row: (K5, K2tog),  rep to end (60 sts rem)
Next Row: P
Next Row: (K4, K2 tog), rep to end (50 sts rem)
Next Row: P
Next Row: (K3, K2 tog), rep. to end (40 sts rem)
Next Row: P
Next Row: (K2, K2 tog), rep to end (30 sts rem)
Next Row: P
Next Row: (K1, K2 tog), rep to end (20 sts rem)
Next Row: P

Leaving a long tail for sew up, cut wool and thread tail through rem 20 sts. Pull up tight and turn Inside out.  Secure by stitching but don't cut the thread.  Using rem tail sew sides tog neatly and fasten off. Turn Right Side out.
