Two Colour Beanie: Free Pattern No. 9

Size: Average

NB: There is no turn up with this pattern but if you require one then rib 4 inches (10 cm) instead of 2 inches (5 cm) and remember to sew the rib on outside of hat when joining sides for turn up.

Materials:
1 pair UK Size 4 Needles (6mm) US Size 10
Use same needles throughout
Approximately 30 grammes (US 30 grams) of Double Knitting Yarn (8 Ply) Brown with a small amunt of Light Blue or coloursof your choice.

Abbreviations:
k: knit; p: purl; sl: slip; st.st.: Stocking Stitch; in: inches; cm: centimetres; tog: together; rep: repeat; st.:stitch; sts: stitches; rem: remaining: beg.: beginning

Terms:
Stocking Stitch: 1st row knit, 2nd row purl; sl 1: slip next stitch onto right needle without knitting it;

Using Grey: Cast on 80 sts
1st Row (optional): Knit into the back of each stitch
Work 8 Rows (or 2 in, 5 cm) in k1, p1 Rib

Begin Pattern:
Row 1: using grey: k
Row 2: using grey: k
Row 3: using bright pink: *k3, sl 1 purlwise*, rep from * to * until end
Row 4: using bright pink: p slipping the grey sts of the previous row
Row 5: using grey: k
Row 6: using grey: k
Row 7: using  bright pink: k2,*sl 1 purlwise, k3*, rep from * to * until last 2 sts, sl 1, k1
Row 8: using  bright pink: p slipping the grey sts of the previous row
Row 9: using grey: k
Row 10: using grey: k
Row 11: using bright pink: k1,*sl 1 purlwise, k3*, rep from * to * until last 2 sts, sl 1, k2
Row 12: using bright pink: p slipping the grey sts of the previous row
Row 13: using grey: k
Row 14: using grey: k
Row 15:using; bright pink: *sl 1 purlwise, k3*, rep from * to * until end
Row 16:using: bright pink: p slipping the grey sts of the previous row
These last sixteen rows form the two-colour pattern.
Repeat the last sixteen rows until work measures 6 inches (15cm) from beg.ending in a row16

Shape Top
Using grey and working in st.st.:
Row 1:  (k6, k2tog), rep to end (70 sts rem)
Row 2: p
Row 3: (k5, k2tog), rep to end (60 sts rem)
Row 4: p
Row 5: (k4, k2 tog), rep to end (50 sts rem)
Row 6: p
Row 7: (k3, k2 tog), rep. to end (40 sts rem)
Row 8: p
Row 9: (k2, k2 tog), rep to end (30 sts rem)
Row 10: p
Row 11: (k1, k2 tog), rep to end (20 sts rem)
Row 12: p

Leaving a long tail for sew up, cut wool and thread tail through rem 20 sts. Pull up tight and turn Inside out. Secure by stitching but don't cut the thread. Using rem tail sew sides tog neatly and fasten off. Turn Right Side out.
