Two Colour Beanie: Free Pattern No. 7

Size: Lady Average

NB: There is no turn up with this pattern but if you require one then rib 4 inches (10 cm) instead of 2 inches (5 cm) and remember to sew the rib on outside of hat when joining sides for turn up.

1 pair UK Size 4 Needles (6mm) US Size 10
Use same needles throughout
Approximately 30 grammes (US 30 grams) of Double Knitting Yarn (8 Ply) Red with a small amount of Cream or colours of your choice.

k: knit; p: purl; sl: slip; yfwd: yarn forward; ybk: yarn back Stocking Stitch; in: inches; cm: centimetres; tog: together; rep: repeat; st.:stitch; sts.: stitches; rem: remaining

Stocking Stitch: 1st row knit, 2nd row purl; sl 1: slip the next stitch onto the right needle without knitting it; yarn forward: bring the yarn towards you; yarn back: put the yarn away from you

Using red cast on 80 sts
First Row (optional) k into back of each st.
Work 8 rows in k1, p1 rib

Begin Pattern:
Row 1: Using red: k1 *k1, sl 1 purlwise* rep from * to * until last st, k1
Row 2: Using red :  k1, *yfwd, sl 1 purlwise, ybk, k1* rep from * to * until last st, k1
Row 3: Using cream: k1, *sl 1 purlwise, k1*, rep from * to * until last st, k1
Row 4: Using cream: k1 *k1, yfwd, sl 1 purlwise, ybk*, rep from * to * until last st, k1
These last four rows form the two-colour pattern.
Repeat the last four two-colour pattern rows until work measures 6 in (15 cm) ending with a 4th Row

Using cream and working in
Row 1:  (k6, k2tog), rep to end (70 sts rem)
Row 2: p
Row 3: (k5, k2tog),  rep to end (60 sts rem)
Row 4: p
Row 5: (k4, k2 tog), rep to end (50 sts rem)
Row 6: p
Row 7: (k3, k2 tog), rep. to end (40 sts rem)
Row 8: p
Row 9: (k2, k2 tog), rep to end (30 sts rem)
Row 10: p
Row 11: (k1, k2 tog), rep to end (20 sts rem)
Row 12: p
Leaving a long tail for sew up, cut wool and thread tail through rem 20 sts. Pull up tight and turn Inside out.  Secure by stitching but don't cut the thread.  Using rem tail sew sides tog neatly and fasten off. Turn Right Side out.
